The Art Gallery specializes in Northern Neck fine art. Run by artist & owner Holly Harman, whose work is displayed throughout the coffeehouse and gallery space, she insists that either the artist has ties to the Northern Neck or that the subject matter captures the beauty of the area or it’s inhabitance.
Nana Gail Lauer The Art of Coffee Featured Artist Her Story
My love of art and creating started in the fourth grade when my teacher, Mrs. Fisher, saw I had some talent and assigned me the job of decorating the bulletin boards each month. I thoroughly enjoyed (cutting and pasting) pictures for each season or holiday. I was always thrilled to get a "paint-by-numbers" kit from the dime store or construction paper and paste. I think your passions developed early in life, as did mine and I continue to carry that passion with me.
After graduating from high school with art honors I got a job with Samuel Kirk and Sons as a silver engraver. When I had been there for a year I was moved into the art department to work on the silver animal series. It was a lot of fun taking the little animals from the foundry to completion.
When my daughter was little I studied ceramics at Towson State University and eventually taught throwing on the wheel for Baltimore City Bureau of Recreation. I still occasionally throw pots and love to sculpt in clay as well.
I have studied watercolor under Dr. Morris Green and Fritz Briggs and oil painting with David Turnbough. But the biggest leap for me was attending Schuler School of Fine Art studying under all the outstanding teachers there in the traditional ways of the old masters.
I plan to eventually teach and pass on what I have learned to others. I am fortunate to have the loving support of my talented husband and daughter.
I hope you enjoy my paintings......Thank you Nana Gail Lauer
